BMW Langley Long Table Event

Posted November 17th, 2012 by Caley

OpenRoad BMW held a dinner and wine pairing event last night and we were asked to decorate their long tables. For this event, we designed forty modern white and green floral centrepieces.

Each arrangement was designed using cymbidium orchids, green reverts, white tulips, roses and unique parrot tulips.

We always love proper lighting at special events, the guys at Surge Productions did not disappoint.

VIFF 2012

Looking for inspiration for modern cocktail table arrangements? We designed these contemporary arrangements for a recent private party, using white calla lilies, roses, horsetail and green reverts.

These unique designs provide your guests with something to talk about while breaking the ice and adding sophistication to your event.

The podium arrangement was designed with beautiful bells of Ireland, giant calla lilies, hydrangea and dendrobium orchids.

Bollywood Party At The SALT Building

Posted September 29th, 2012 by Caley

This year’s Vancouver International Film Festival Opening Gala theme was BOLLYWOOD! It was a great sight to see so many guests dressed in spectacular and vibrant Indian outfits.

Deepa Mehta, an Indian-born Canadian film director and screenwriter said in a recent Vancouver Sun interview:

“This is my fourth time at VIFF and I must say that VIFF throws the best after parties in the world. The one that we are in totally rocks. We’ve got Bhangra and jazz and you have the most amazing food, so I am thrilled to be here. And it’s a great audience for film, it’s perfect.”

We certainly agree, my favourite dish was the tandoori lamb…mmmmmmmmm….

BLD Decor, Clark’s AV and many other vendors transformed the normally vacant and sparse SALT building into New Delhi’s hottest night club.

Guests entering the venue were greeted by enormous floral arrangements, we designed them with roses, hydrangeas, orchids, dahlias, and curly willow dancing to Indian music in iron baskets.

I love what proper lighting can do to a simple cocktail table arrangement.

Leaders Conference Flowers at Vancouver Convention Centre

Posted August 4th, 2012 by Caley

It was an exciting and busy last few days as we worked closely with the BLD Decor and Scenery company to decorate the expansive Vancouver Convention Centre.

It was one of Vancouver’s biggest corporate events of 2012 and we were involved with their opening and closing events at the Vancouver Convention Centre West.

Day 1 of the conference covered not only the ballrooms inside the Convention Centre, but also outside on the terrace, both the upper and lower sections. An amazing view and outdoor experience for all of the out of town guests.

The event also incorporated multiple themes throughout, from a Prairie theme to a Nautical theme.

The last day of the conference featured a variety of arrangements that were inspired by Stanley Park.

Although we’ve decorated this venue many times since their opening, we hadn’t spent as much time within a few days as we have for this event. The facility and staff are top notch and the view from their loading bay is the best in town!

Grouse Mountain View X Fragrant Peony Centrepieces

Posted June 4th, 2012 by Caley

Grouse Mountain Private Event

We were commissioned by the boutique PR firm Ki Communications to design beautiful floral decor for a private event this past weekend at Grouse Mountain. The theme was red with an organic and natural look.

Red chocolate and flowers

We decided not to hike the Grouse Grind to deliver the arrangements as we had over 27 centrepieces. We definitely thought it would have been a good story though!

Here’s a picture of Amy anxiously looking forward to setting up all the flowers to make the already beautiful Lupins room pop.

The centrepieces for the long tables were decorated with huge burgundy peonies, red roses, red leucadendron, red freesia designed in a birch container.

All the round tables were decorated with red roses, leaf loops and large burgundy peonies.

TEDxVancouver Floral Arrangements

Posted November 13th, 2011 by Caley

TEDxVancouver 2011

We had the wonderful opportunity to join, participate and get inspired with over a thousand bright minds for TEDxVancouver yesterday. The day was full of amazing, thought provoking and inspirational speakers. My favourite speakers were from Aaron Coret and Stephen Slen, Nolan Watson and Jer Thorp. Rick Chung of vancouverisawesome.com has a great blog post of the entire event, you can check it out here.

Not only did we have the privilege of attending the event, we also had the privilege of designing the floral decor. The theme for this year’s event was “THE FRONTIER” focusing on pushing boundaries through knowledge and innovation. With this in mind, we came up with the frontier inspired floral designs below.

We designed the arrangement in a sleek mirror container, inspired by a prototype aircraft. The structure of the arrangement gave it movement, as if the arrangement is moving fast, while the red ribbon ties the arrangement to the TEDx logo.

Here is a low quality picture during the lunch break of one of the arrangements at the registration table. Beautiful photo’s of the event can be seen on Jeremy Lim’s website.

VIFF Closing Gala

Posted October 27th, 2011 by nicola

I promised a follow up to the post I did on the Vancouver International Film Festival Opening Gala, so here it is!  The Closing Gala was held in the historic Salt building, located in the Athelte’s Village in South East False Creek.  For those of you that don’t know, the Salt building is a significant and historic landmark for Vancouver, it’s located on the original shoreline of False Creek.  After being built in the early 1930′s as a refinery for raw salt, it was converted in the 1980′s to a paper recycling facility.  It sat empty for a number of years, until it was restored to it’s original glory prior to the 2010 Olympics.

If you’ve never been inside I highly recommend you go have a look, even if you just peek through the windows. It’s a big red barn like structure from the exterior with glass entrances at either end. The interior has a ceiling of exposed beams, dotted with sky lights. It’s just a big open space with minimal partitions (they have built in some washrooms though), great for holding parties, exhibits or as I said when I walked in, “Oh my god!  You could have a fantastic wedding in here!!” I’ve always loved the look of a bare bones structure like a barn all dressed up on the inside with elegant touches for a wedding.  There’s something about the contrast, it makes it seem so luxurious.

As you will see they really dressed up this space for the event, the theme was Arabian Nights!

Check out that ceiling!  So cool!  As you can see we chose deep, rich tones to reflect the sumptuous and decadent Arabian Nights theme.  We used dark pink lilies, mixed with red roses, red mokara orchids, and hot pink phalaenopsis orchids, along with a mix of burgundy and pink dahlias.  Additions like protea, curly willow and large tropical greens really ramped up the drama of the arrangements.

Big fluffy pink hydrangea are great to use in such large scale arrangements, they fill in a lot of space.  We also added some big bamboo sticks to raise the height and make them as grand as the space they were in.

As you can see it was a pretty extravagant evening.  The team from BLD decor was in there for hours before the event turning the big empty space into a lounge fit for an Arabian Prince and his harem!

And since I mentioned barn weddings earlier I thought I would share a photo of what I was talking about….

Come on…is that not GORGEOUS!!!???

A Perfect Garden Party Wedding?

Posted October 3rd, 2011 by Caley

Amy and I finally got married after over 4 years of dating long distance and 3 years of owning a flower shop together!

There isn’t a lot of free time and not a lot of vacations to be had when you start your own business. Therefore, our wedding had just one goal: TO RELAX AND HAVE A BLAST!

Being in the wedding industry, we are continually decorating stunning venue’s all over Vancouver. From Brock House, to Four Seasons, from the Vancouver Aquarium to the Fairmont Waterfront, we’ve had the lucky opportunity to experience all these beautiful locations. One would assume it would be such a hard decision to decide which amazing and stunning venue we should have our reception at. Since we just had one goal we knew where to go.

Our favourite restaurant: Guu Garden.

Check out the amazing photographs by Jeremy Lim to see if we were able to achieve our goal.
