Amy graduated from SFU with a degree in psychology and education. After spending 5 years teaching Kindergarteners in Asia, she pursued her main interest and passion – floral design. In 2009, she became owner of Garden Party Flowers and where she helped us grow from a small boutique in Kitsilano to a new two floor floral studio in the heart of Vancouver.

“The key to meeting my client’s satisfaction is to know and understand their expectation.”

Beliefs

Do what i love to do and excel at it via thinking outside the box.

My floral designing journey starts with my belief. It’s self-taught, world inspired, and is a life long learning experience. Floral design calms my temper down, brings my energy up, and allows me to brainstorm freely.

Style

My design styles are constantly changing, changing for better and to the next level. I am ambitious and love to challenge myself to explore different ideas. My style preferences are modern and monochromatic with a fusion of ikebana and Dutch design.

My favorite flower is peony.

I originally hail from Winnipeg Manitoba, but now consider myself a west coast girl after happily living in Vancouver for 8 years.

I have a Bachelors of Interior Design, and spent a number of years working in Real Estate Development before joining the team at Garden Party Flowers.

Favorite flowers include;

Ranunculus, Craspedia, Dahlias, Yellow Roses, Poppies, and Garden Roses (especially O’Hara)

I’m a girly girl at heart, I love making English Garden style arrangements, and am a sucker for anything sunshine yellow.

I love all things floral, interesting foliage and wild gardens. When I’m not in the studio, I can be found running around the seawall with my dog, Max.

- Yeah, that last part is a dream. I’ve always wanted to run with a pup named Max!

I snowboard, mountain bike, play hockey but delivering stunning floral arrangements to Garden Party’s clients gives me the most joy. With a background in business development and finance, I’ve worked for corporations in London, Shanghai and Beijing.

When not delivering, I spend my days updating the Garden Party website and figuring out new ways to create the best customer experience.

We strongly believe in good vibes and a good set of core values to live by.  If you agree and like our values, I’m sure you’ll like our service and floral design

1. Massive Attention to Detail

We appreciate the aesthetics of small details
Nothing goes out that door until it is as perfect as it can be
Thorough note taking so the customer’s request is remembered and communicated among us later when we are fulfilling the order

2. Strive For Growth, Improvement and Learning

Look for ways to make the store run smoothly, especially from our customer’s point of view.
All aspects of the business can grow or change, this cycle will never stop
Leverage our various backgrounds and talents by teaching them to our teammates
If you see a course, event and show you would like to participate in that you feel would elevate your skills or inspire you, Garden Party will pay for it

3. Build Relationships through Humble Communication

Always be respectful and supportive in how we interact with everyone at work and outside of work
Speak in a friendly manner to our valued customers, not fake or over the top
Be yourself and build trust. People will always remember how you made them feel

4. Balance Efficiency and Quality with healthy dose of FUN

Light music and lots of smiles make customers enjoy their experience.
We want to be able to laugh at ourselves, making both fun and humour a part of our daily work
When we enjoy work, quality, efficiency and fun come automatically

5. Design with Stunning Elegance, Playful Creativity

Creativity in the attention to small details and unique solutions to design challenges
Share ideas with your fellow designers and listen to feedback
Always make better arrangements than what we see out there in the world

6. Foster a Positive and Reliable Team

Support each other and maintain a reputation of reliability and togetherness with our customers.
Always contribute as much as possible because this is how you learn the areas that you may not be the strongest in

7. Be Super Down to Earth

Be yourself. Encourage honest and friendly relationships among teammates and with our customers.
We are also practical, and can work with any budget

8. Underpromise. Overdeliver

By making realistic and “safe” promises, we can surpass customer expectations and really wow them.
Tell a customer “sure, I can do that” when you really mean “my work will blow your mind”

9. Be Green.

Try a little harder to put all plant material in the compost, recycle all paper, cardboard and containers (plastic, metal, etc).
Constantly learn and find out more ways and methods that we can be even more green.

10. Community Involvement

Supporting local events, families, school, businesses and men and women in uniform
Being neighbourly and welcoming all who come in and give Fat Cat love and attention
